WRITER / PRODUCER / DIRECTOR

 

My name is Uroosa Rahim aka Nausheen. I am a Chicago native with family roots in the field of media and entertainment. I feel fortunate to have earned a reputation as an authority within the South Asian market. I got my start working at a family-owned radio station and producing Bollywood stage shows. This presented me with the opportunity to learn the ropes first hand.

 

As I gained more experience, I assumed the role of Director and Producer for the successful radio program Naubahar. It was actually hosted by my mother, Saher Negaar. This was one of the first programs to introduce the music and culture of the Indo-Pak community to the city. During this time I was also able to cultivate my passion for music and dance through stage show choreography for India Tribune Night, Gujarat Pragati Mandal and Naubahar Night. In addition to managing and understanding Bollywood entertainment, I have enjoyed interacting with other genres, including Hip-Hop, Reggae and Garage. I was hired as a Public Relations Manager for the artist MC ZULU, and was instrumental in helping him to book tour dates around the world. March 2016, "Little Lotto", his collaboration with AloWala & Nucleya, was nominated at the Global Indian Music Academy Awards!! (GiMA) Best Non-Film, Electronica (http://www.gima.co.in/non-film-nominations.php). Additionally I have worked with many local and international artists helping them create music videos including world's fastest American Rapper TWISTA. More recently I directed a music video called Yaad for an international artist and commercial ads for Maqdoom Brothers, RR Pan Masala and WIIZ Led Lights.

 

In 2014 I joined an entertainment company owned by CEO of LA TAN, Nick Patel. Within a year I was appointed as President of his company. During my time with the company I have helped to organize arena-sized, live concerts, upscale wedding expos, international designer fashion shows and several multi-media productions. I have been described as a hands-on leader who possesses outstanding team player skills, and the ability to thrive in high-pressure environments. I am also a Co-owner of a Chicago-based transportation company, Way To Go Limousine (Est. 2012). We have a growing fleet of vehicles which are often utilized in tandem with our event productions.

 

In 2016 I was asked to help the Deccan Film Industry by developing an organization called Deccan Film Society, approved by the government, to grant subsidy and tax free benefits to film makers. I have been elected as a Board Member and accepted my position as Director of Planning. I hope to contribute a lot of ideas to help the Deccan Film Industry to grow fast and open more beneficial doors to the industry.

I am the Co-Founder and CEO of a Bollywood film production company Naubahar Films. I have co-directed and produced my first film Salaam Zindagi. It was released all over India by Rajshri Productions in 2017 and was declared a blockbuster hit. I am looking forward to writing, producing and directing more films.

 

I'm passionate about bringing important cinematic work from all parts of the world to America. Therefore, along with my business partner Syed Hussain, in 2016 we established Naubahar International Film Festival. Our intention is to recognize the outstanding accomplishments made by people who produce South Asian films, and acknowledge talented entertainers from around the world. Film makers from all genres are encouraged to submit their work for a special screening in Chicago. They will also have an opportunity to be nominated for various international, people's choice awards. The Naubahar mission is to celebrate the movie makers, using cinema related events to build cultural bridges.
